Relationship between Knowledge Level of Blood Glucose Control with Hypertension in Diabetes Mellitus Patients at Depok Hospital

Based on Riskesdas data, diabetes mellitus cases in Indonesia shown an increase over the past 5 years. Macrovascular complications occur due to atherosclerosis which causes hypertension. Prevention of complications can be done by having good knowledge in controlling blood sugar. This study refers to the question "Is there a relationship between the level of knowledge about blood glucose control and hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus?". This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the internal medicine polyclinic of Depok City Hospital. This research method is quantitative and cross-sectional approach, using primary data from interviews and blood pressure measurements. The sample of this study was 70 people with consecutive sampling method. The results of this study were 39 people (55.7%) of respondents had a poor level of knowledge and there was a relationship between the level of knowledge about blood glucose control and hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the internal medicine polyclinic of Depok City Hospital with a P value of 0.003 so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge about blood glucose control and hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the internal medicine polyclinic of the Depok City Regional General Hospital. Recommendations for further research are expected to increase the number of samples and add confounding variables that have not been studied.
